We all know that urge to be distinct, be odd, be different, be original. Is it about appearances? For some it is. For an outsider in HK, it definitely is there. As I walk across the see of black coupes, dark eyes and little steps; there it is thrown in my face: the reflection of a self in everything that is different. They are not interested, Hong Kong is a big city, it was a colony, they've seen enough outsiders, forget it, they don't give you a special curiosity in their looks. But I care and I don't understand their walks, their gestures and sounds. This confusion immediately sets me apart as I stumble and hesitantly wade through the streets. They are my instant ID, an outsider.
Its relieving, there is no mass aggresively sucking in your uniqueness, there is only a mass spitting you into yourself.

Now you know how I would feel being a dark-eye, short-step in Utrecht.

Hey, how was the trip in China? Bet it was very nice...At least, Jiuzhaigou was beatiful, although tourists and people are contaminating the place.

I'm sure you will get used to it in Hong Kong. Not sure if you realized, people, to a certain extent, are actually scared of you because you are speaking a completely different language, but most of them are really nice. Hope you will get along well soon.

Anyway, you have a very nice view from your room, which hall are you living in? Maybe you don't like it...and city-life is not a thing for europeans...but Hong Kong is the city which never sleeps...it is always alive...and maybe it's only the people in your hall who act like they are dead during the day, but people out there are always happy, even during the day, 'cos they are living their lives in a way which they chose for themselves...

When are you coming back to Holland? January? Just want to see if I can meet you in Hong Kong...I'll be back in Hong Kong at the end of December...

    Have fun in Hong Kong!
