Having just arrived, I faced the enigmatic picture of Chairman Mao floating in my jetlag-delirium. The first day we arrived in the morning and went to the forbidden city (were it used to cost 20 yrs of studying confucianism and now only 20 rmb to enter) and tiannamen square (were tanks were stronger than pro-democratic students). Anyway, a culture shocking overdose of china, which really made my head spin. And oh yeah, looking back, the forbidden sity is really impressing, although, I wasn't fully there to realize it then.
